The Official Journal of the European Union ( OJ ) is the official publication gazette of the European Union . In its function it is comparable to the Federal Law Gazette in Germany and the Federal Law Gazette for the Republic of Austria .

history

Precursor to the Official Journal of the European Union was the publishing service of the European Coal and Steel since 1952 published Official Journal of the European Coal and Steel . Its first issue was published in four languages ​​( German , French , Italian and Dutch ) and appeared for the first time on December 30, 1952. When the European Communities were founded, it was renamed the Official Journal of the European Communities .

With the entry into force of the Treaty of Nice , the Official Journal of the European Union has been published every day from Tuesday to Saturday in the official languages ​​of the European Union since February 1, 2003 . It is the only periodical in the world that is published daily in so many languages. The Official Journal is published by the Publications Office of the European Union .

The Official Journal has been available online since 1998 via the EUR-Lex legal portal . With effect from July 1, 2013, the electronic edition of the Official Journal is legally binding in accordance with Article 5 of Regulation (EU) No. 216/2013.
