Anastasios Kallis

Anastasios Kallis (born August 14, 1934 in Naoussa , Greece ) is an Orthodox theologian .

Life

Anastasios Kallis studied theology , philosophy , pedagogy and history at the University of Thessaloniki . After completing his diploma in theology, he continued his studies at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster in 1960 as a scholarship holder from the Münster diocese .

In 1964 Kallis received his doctorate in philosophy and worked as a research assistant at the then newly founded Catholic-Ecumenical Institute, Eastern Churches department , of the Westphalian Wilhelms University.

After receiving his doctorate in theology in 1974, he qualified as the first non-Catholic theologian at a Catholic theological faculty in Germany in 1978 . He received the venia legendi for "History and Theology of the Eastern Church ". From 1979 until his retirement in 1999 he held the then newly established professorship for Orthodox theology .

Focus of his activity

Kallis' work was not limited to academic teaching and participation in ecumenical dialogues and commissions at national and international level. He was actively involved in the integration process of the Orthodox Church in Germany and initiated the foundation of the “ Commission of the Orthodox Church in Germany ”. With the approval of all Orthodox bishops in Germany, he was elected chairman of this commission.

Kallis was an advisor to the State Institute for Schools and Further Education in Soest when drawing up the curriculum for the subject of Orthodox religious teaching in the schools of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Anastasios Kallis had the vision of a “western orthodoxy of eastern identity” and developed this concept in his scientific publications, e. B. in the book "Orthodoxy. What's this?".
