Anatole Dauman (born February 7, 1925 in Warsaw , † April 8, 1998 in Paris ) was a French film producer "who helped to realize some poetic masterpieces by Alain Resnais and Robert Bresson with great willingness to take risks ".

Live and act

Dauman, the son of Polish Jews, came to France at a young age and was active in the resistance movement during World War II . In 1949 he founded the film production company Argos Films with Philippe Lifchitz, who was six years his senior, and became its general director.

With his first major work, Alexandre AstrucsThe Scarlet Curtain ”, Dauman sketched out his production line: In his output, the producer favored artistically ambitious works: in addition to those from the hands of Resnais and Bresson, also those by the French avant-garde film makers Jean-Luc Godard and Chris Marker . Dauman also produced productions by the Japanese Nagisa Ōshima as well as individual works by the former "young filmmakers" Volker Schlöndorff and Wim Wenders , who work closely with French partners .
