Mouchette is a French film from 1966 . Directed by Robert Bresson . The film is based on the story The New Story of the Mouchette by Georges Bernanos .

action

Fourteen year old Mouchette lives in the countryside in the south of France. Her father is an alcoholic farmer, her mother is bedridden and terminally ill. The school cannot stop her either, she is harassed there because of her poor performance and her unkempt appearance. One day she meets the poacher Arsène in the forest, who previously murdered the hunter in an argument and then raped her.

criticism

"Congenial film adaptation of the gloomy novel by Bernanos (1937), formally strict, interested in detail, brittle in the selection of episodes, which can be understood as an accusation against lovelessness and inability to love."
