action

In Paris at night, the painter Jacques meets Marthe, who wants to commit suicide at the Pont Neuf . The reason for the suicide attempt was that she was transferred at this point by her lover. Jacques spends four nights with Marthe, during which they both get closer and tell each other their life stories. When Marthe then meets her lover again, she leaves Jacques.

criticism

“Bresson's essay on love is a film of extremely intellectual clarity and at the same time of high artistic standing. By accepting psychic reality as physical reality, Bresson makes the ideas behind the appearances visible and opens up new dimensions for cinema. "
