Anceriz , sometimes also Anseriz , is a place and a former municipality in Portugal .

history

The place name is probably of Gothic origin. Anceriz was officially documented for the first time with its mention in a deed of donation from 1185, when the area came to Pedro Afonso Viegas (grandson of Egas Moniz ) and his wife Urraca Afonso (illegitimate daughter of the first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques ).

Anceriz belonged to the district of Santa Maria de Avô , which according to the registers of 1258 was directly under the king. Later the king gave the area to the bishops of Coimbra .

With the dissolution of Avô County in 1855, Anceriz became part of Arganil County.

In the course of the administrative reform in 2013 , the municipality of Anceriz was dissolved and merged with Vila Cova de Alva .
