See other things is a non-profit association for the promotion of blind children in Germany , Austria and Switzerland . The main focus of work is improving the support of blind children and strengthening the rights of disabled people. The aim of the association is to enable blind children to develop as equally as possible and at the same time as their sighted peers and thus to achieve long-term inclusion .

In the workshops mainly parents - of the association, held since 2011, people have been more than 300 trained early promoter or mobility trainer also blind participants as multipliers, but.

Club structure

The association was founded in autumn 2011 by Steffen Zimmermann and Ellen Schweizer. They form the board of the association . Other vision is registered with the District Court of Berlin-Charlottenburg under VR 31021 B, recognized as non-profit with the purpose of "promoting help for the disabled (§ 52 Paragraph 2 Sentence 1 No. (n) 10 AO)".

history

The association was founded in 2011 by the parents of a blind child with the purpose of informing other parents of blind children about funding opportunities for their children that were practiced abroad and that were not yet available in Germany at the time. In particular, the click sonar technique, the highly developed form of active echolocation , was not used or taught, and there was no child-friendly long sticks or long stick training for children before school. The first workshops were held in cooperation with educators for the blind and mobility trainers from “ World Access for the Blind ”. Steffen Zimmermann invented the German term "click sonar" for the "Flash Sonar" technology, which was largely unknown in Germany up to that point. Klicksonar and early long pole training have since been adopted by various institutions for the blind, such as the blista , the ISIS Institute Cologne , and the IRIS Institute Hamburg, as well as the Austrian Federal Institute for Education for the Blind (bbi), which has been providing the Klicksonar training "Autonomy by clicking the tongue “Offers.

Goals and priorities

The aim of the association is to make known the methods not yet used in Germany in early intervention , special education , mobility training and to introduce them into the training of the relevant professions.

In addition, the association has set itself the goal of producing or commissioning non-existent products, e.g. B. high-quality, tactilely illustrated children's books and long sticks for toddlers and small children. Tactile Advent calendars were developed as well as Braille ABC posters and Braille alphabet cards.

On a political level, the association is committed to improving the promotion and inclusion of blind children, to the dissemination and implementation of braille on product packaging, to the barrier-free supermarket and to the development of a tactile interface for computers that could replace the braille display technology that is common today .

An important goal was achieved in March 2017 when the health insurance association recognized that white canes are also useful for children and should be used as early as possible. Therefore, children's long sticks have now been included in the aids directory of the statutory health insurance and can now be prescribed by doctors by prescription .
