Anders Rydberg (* 3. March 1903 in Gothenburg ; † 26. October 1989 ) was a Swedish football - goalkeeper .

Career

Rydberg played at IFK Göteborg from 1923 . When the Allsvenskan was founded a year later , he was able to qualify with the club for the new elite series. As a regular goalkeeper, he played for the Swedish championship with IFK for several years. In the seasons 1924/25 , 1926/27 and 1929/30 only the second place was achieved. It was not until the 1934/35 season that the triumph was achieved and the club won the Von Rosens Cup for the fourth time in the club's history 17 years after the last title . Rydberg was one of the eleven players with the most appearances during the season and was therefore awarded the title of Swedish champion. Until 1937 he was still between the posts for IFK Göteborg and ended his career after 284 games in the Swedish elite series. This puts him in second place in the list of players with the most consecutive games in the Swedish House of Lords behind Sven Jonasson , who played 332 games in a row in the Allsvenskan between 1927 and 1943.

Rydberg was also a Swedish national player and played a total of 30 games for the national selection. He made his debut on June 26, 1927 in the 5-3 success over the Norwegian national team in the national jersey. Initially, however, he could not prevail against Sigge Lindberg from Helsingborgs IF and was only used irregularly until 1930. Only after the competitor left the goal of the national team did Rydberg appear more often, but had to deal with other competitors such as Eivar Widlund or Sture Hult . In 1934 he had finally won the regular place between the posts of the Swedish goal and was part of the squad at the 1934 World Cup . During the tournament he was used in the 3-2 opening win against Argentina and the subsequent 2-1 defeat against Germany , which meant the elimination of the Northern Europeans. On June 16, 1935, he was used again: The 3-1 victory over the Danish national team was his last international game, Sven Bergqvist took over the regular position as goalkeeper in the national team.
