Andorran diner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Diner is a currency of the Principality of Andorra for coins that are issued by the Principality itself. Since the country uses the euro but did not issue its own Andorran euro coins until 2015 , the diner pseudo coins were issued as investment and collector coins, but not used in trade. A dinner is divided into 100 cèntims. The words "els diners" mean "money" in Catalan .

The minting of diners was started in 1977 or 1983 by the Bishop of Urgell in his function as co-prince of Andorra and officially issued by the Servei d'Emissions (mint of the episcopal co-prince). Previously given dinners came from private individuals. From 1998 the Consell General de les Valls also issued diner coins. The French President as co-prince did not have any diners coined.

A dinner was equivalent to 100 pesetas (1983–1985), then 125 pesetas.

There are weights of 250 g, 500 g, 1 kg, 5 kg and 15 kg (450 Diners), which are manufactured by the Belgian company Umicore for Andorra. In contrast to conventional silver bars , they were available in Germany at the VAT rate for coins, which was reduced to seven percent , until the conversion of VAT at the end of 2014 , as they are legal tender.
