André Frossard

André Frossard (born January 14, 1915 in Colombier-Châtelot , Doubs department , † February 2, 1995 in Versailles ) was a French journalist and essayist .

Life

André Frossard was the son of Ludovic-Oscar Frossard , one of the founders of the French Communist Party and later a minister in the governments of the Popular Front .

He converted to Catholicism in 1935 as a result of a sudden conversion experience . He dealt with this event in his work Dieu existe, je l'ai rencontré from 1969 (Eng: God exists. I met him).

Frossard joined the Navy in September 1936 and, after the armistice, the French Resistance . On December 10, 1943 he was arrested by the Gestapo in Lyon and held in Montluc prison . After the war he was accepted into the Legion of Honor by General Charles de Gaulle and promoted to officer .

André Frossard, who wrote for the daily Le Figaro for many years , was accepted into the Académie française in 1987.
