André Christian Murillo (born May 18, 1990 in Bremerhaven ) is an American - German basketball player. He last played for the Rostock Seawolves in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB .

career

Murillo, son of a German mother and a US soldier, first grew up in Bremerhaven , when he was twelve years old he moved to California with his parents . In his youth he played basketball, football, baseball and soccer.

He ultimately chose basketball as his main sport and played at El Toro High School in the town of Lake Forest, California in southern California. In 2008 he began his college career at Concordia University Irvine, also in California . With the "CIU Eagles" he reached in the playoffs of the College Football NAIA in 2009 the round of eight teams, in 2010 it reached the last sixteen.

On April 25, 2009, Murillo was stabbed in the chest with a knife during an argument at a party. The blade hit the pericardium and internal bleeding was found in the lungs. He was in the hospital for three and a half weeks, five days of which in intensive care, and had to undergo several operations.

In 2011, Murillo moved to Biola University near Los Angeles and, with the team, also nicknamed "Eagles", was one of the top eight NAIA teams in its first season (2011/12). In his final season (2013/14) he posted the best statistical values ​​of his university basketball career (15.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.1 basket assists per game).

In July 2014 Murillo signed his first professional contract with the Hamburg Towers from the 2nd Bundesliga ProA and was part of the Hanseatic squad in their first season in the club's history. He wore the Hamburg jersey in 32 ProA games and averaged 4.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per use.

After a season in the second division Murillo went to the Rostock Seawolves in the third highest German season, the 2. Bundesliga ProB, for the 2015/16 season . In his first Rostock season, Murillo posted an average of 12.3 points and seven rebounds per encounter. He was able to increase the former value in the 2016/17 season when he scored 15.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game before he had to end the season prematurely in February 2017 due to an ankle injury.

Private life

On May 19, 2018, Murillo married his long-time partner, the American singer-songwriter and Grammy Awards winner Tori Kelly , in California in the presence of friends and family.
