André Philip
André Philip (born June 28, 1902 in Pont-Saint-Esprit ( Département Gard ), † July 5, 1970 in Paris ) was a French socialist politician.
As a confidante of Charles de Gaulle, he drafted a plan for the French government in exile in 1943 , which was worked out with the help of Jean Monnet and René Mayer . This plan was intended for a concept of Western European integration. A heavy industry community should belong there. Germany, in which it was to play a special role, belonged above all to this far-sighted plan. This was the basis for the coal and steel union , whose contract was signed on April 18, 1951, i.e. H. of the European Community for Coal and Stahl (ECSC), in force from May 9, 1950 and July 25, 1952.
