André Smit

André Smit (born June 30, 1916 in Zwolle ; † November 21, 2001 in Hilversum ) was a Dutch jazz and entertainment musician (trombone, arrangement).

From 1938 Smit played in the dance orchestras of John Kristel , Ernst van't Hoff and Henry van Leer ; In 1939/40 he was a soloist with Ray Ventura , with whom he cake through Europe. In the early 1940s he worked with van't Hoff in the German Reich and in 1941 made records for the gramophone with his orchestra. He also worked during this time a. a. also with Meg Tevelian , Ernst Weiland , Willi Stech and Benny de Weille . After the war he worked in the Netherlands as a trombonist and arranger with Klaas van Beeck , Ger van Leeuwen (1942–1951) and in the Metropole Orkest under the direction of Dolf van der Linden (1948–1956), as well as director and arranger of the Maria Zamora y ensemble sus Muchachos (1950-1960). He was life partner, orchestra conductor and manager of Maria Zamora (1950–1970). In 1958 he worked as an arranger with Louis Alberto del Paraná and his Trio Los Paraguayos (album Trovador Tropical , Philips ) and from 1964 to 1982 as an arranger and music director for the broadcaster NRU / NOS . In the field of jazz he was involved in 34 recording sessions between 1941 and 1953.
