Life

Wendt attended a polytechnic high school until 1988 and graduated from secondary school . In 1993 he joined the German Armed Forces, where he trained as a system administrator. In 1999 he became a professional soldier (dormant). He took part in several Bundeswehr missions abroad , for example in Afghanistan . He is a member of the Bundeswehr Association .

Wendt is non-denominational and divorced; he lives in Dresden .

politics

He has been a member of Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) since 2013 and sits on the board of the AfD district association in Dresden. In addition, he was a member of the city district council from 2014 to 2019 (until 2018: local advisory board) Blasewitz (Dresden).

In the state elections in Saxony in 2014 , Wendt moved into the Saxon state parliament in Dresden via the state list of his party (12th place) ; the AfD received 9.7 percent of the second vote. He was chairman of the committee for social affairs and consumer protection, equality and integration, as well as a member of the constitutional and legal committee and the study commission for ensuring the supply and further development of quality in care for the elderly in the Free State of Saxony.

For the state elections in Saxony in 2019, Wendt stood for his party in fourth place on the list and was elected to the state parliament.

On October 1, 2019, André Wendt was elected 2nd Vice President in the third ballot at the constituent meeting of the Saxon State Parliament. A simple majority was sufficient here. In the first two ballots he did not get the necessary majority.

Political positions

Wendt advocates the abolition of dual citizenship , constant border controls and the "immediate abolition of broadcasting contributions ".

Wendt also received supraregional attention when he got confused when introducing amendments to the budget in December 2016 and argued with the President of the State Parliament from the lectern. In February 2017, Wendt made a small inquiry in the Saxon state parliament about the expected costs for unaccompanied minor refugees, including "help with sterilization", which referred to sterilization required by illness. The request aroused outrage nationwide as well as criticism of the question rated as deliberate provocation. The issues discussed have nothing to do with reality and the sterilization of minors is prohibited in Germany, according to Saxon politicians from other parties. 2018 was sharply criticized from other parties because he openly stoked hatred against migrants in a speech on the immigration and integration concept: "He conjured up the danger of an illegal flooding of Europe with millions of people, the majority of whom he considered illiterate, criminals, stabbers, Islamists or anti-Semites defamed. ”The critics questioned his position as committee chairman.

At the end of 2017, Wendt endorsed every means proposed by the CDU / SPD government to combat the staff shortage in Saxon schools, including salary increases and civil servants. In addition, at the beginning of 2018 he demanded that the state government "should finally use its influence on the long-term care insurance funds and collective bargaining partners and enforce higher salaries" in order to combat the long-term care emergency. As a social policy spokesman, Wendt is also committed to implementing the quota for rural doctors in Saxony, which his party calls for.

Wendt was also critical of LGBT politics several times. In 2016, for example, he was surprised by the 23rd demonstration on Christopher Street Day in Dresden and asked the state government how it had supported the event, which was immediately answered by the organizer himself. In response to a ruling by the European Court of Justice that bans psychological tests of homosexuality in asylum seekers, Wendt said that masses of alleged homosexuals would now be granted asylum and included in the social system, which, according to Queer.de editor-in-chief Norbert Blech, gave him the right to asylum for persecuted homosexuals as such attack.

A motion brought by him to the state parliament to mark the day of the bombing raid on Dresden as an official day of mourning was rejected by the other parliamentary groups. While he advertised it as a “message for peace”, criticized the disruption of previous mourning events and defended the bombed Dresden as an “innocent city”, he was countered by comparing it with the unequally disruptive atomic bombs and generally highlighting the attack downplaying other attacks on Dresden. The AfD's application serves the “myth of Dresden” as an innocent city and is “fully in the tradition of the NPD” - whereupon Wendt was outraged.

Referring to verbal derailments at the Pegida demonstrations in Dresden, he said: "Death threats, calls for violence, denigration or even physical attacks on those who think differently must have no place in our country. They should not only be condemned but prevented. Anyone who violates these principles, must answer for it. " Wendt had been accused of taking part in the Pegida demonstration in Dresden on October 7th, as the elected vice-president of the Saxon state parliament, together with the AfD state chairman Jörg Urban , at which the Pegida chairman Lutz Bachmann and the audience called for murder has been. Together with Urban, he was the first AfD representative for Pegida in a year. The AfD once had an incompatibility decision by the AfD and Pegida.
