Andrée Weitzel (born May 17, 1917 in Lausanne ; † September 20, 1984 there , entitled to live in Lausanne) was a Swiss journalist and senior member of the women's welfare service .

Life

Weitzel passed the commercial baccalaureate and obtained the federal photographer diploma. From 1940 to 1945 she did voluntary work in the women's service (FHD) in the air observation and reporting service and was appointed inspector in 1943 . From 1945 to 1953 she worked as a journalist and was the chief of service in officers' courses . Finally, Weitzel was appointed head of the FHD office in 1953 and held this position until 1976. She resigned from this role because Relief Society was restructured .

After her professional life, in 1979 she wrote the study entitled The Participation of Women in Overall Defense, which was a trend-setting study for female members of the Swiss Army and their position . She was also Vice President of the UNESCO Commission and the New Helvetic Society . She also took a seat on the Executive Committee of the ICRC .
