Life

Andrea Bender graduated from high school in 1993 and from 1993 studied painting at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main with Jörg Immendorff . In 1994 she moved to the art college in Kassel to study with Silke Leverkühne and Alf Schuler and in 1996 she moved to the art academy in Düsseldorf, where she studied painting again with Jörg Immendorff and, from 1997, with the Grieshaber student Dieter Krieg . In 1998 she became a master student of Dieter Krieg and in 1999 she received a travel grant from the Kunstverein and the Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf, as well as the academy letter from the Düsseldorf Art Academy . In 2001 she received a scholarship from the Herrenhof Edenkoben / Pfalz.

Since 1998 she has been represented by the Düsseldorf gallery Peter Tedden and has exhibited there regularly. In the following years she was represented at important art fairs in Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Copenhagen and Düsseldorf. Since autumn 2007 she has been on tour in Asia and has exhibited in Djakarta, Beijing and Singapore. Andrea Bender is a member of the Düsseldorf Artists Association .

With her violent and psychological figurative painting, shaped by the Immendorff and Krieg schools, she forms a counterbalance to the figurative-surreal painting of the so-called New Leipzig School .
