Alf Schuler

Alf Schuler (* 1945 in Berchtesgaden ) is a German artist (sculpture, objects, wall pieces, floor work, drawings, minimalist shapes) and university professor.

Live and act

Born in the former Salzberger district of Anzenbach , now Berchtesgaden , he studied from 1962 to 1963 at the Werkkunstschule Aachen and from 1964 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg , where he completed his studies in 1970 with Gerhard Wendland .

Alf Schuler was a member of the German Association of Artists , received a Villa Romana grant in 1975 and participated in a total of eight annual DKB exhibitions between 1969 and 1989. In 1977 he took part in documenta 6 and in 1987 in documenta 8 in Kassel. In 1977 he received (together with Peter Thiele ) the advancement award of the city of Nuremberg and in 1981 the art award of the Böttcherstraße in Bremen. In 1989 he was appointed to the Kassel Art College . His work is committed to minimal art . It addresses spatial perception and makes physical properties such as gravity and tension relationships visible.
