Andrea Carrera (* 1590 in Trapani ; † 1677 ibid), incorrectly also Carreca, was an Italian Baroque painter in Sicily .

Life

Andrea Carrera comes from the artist family of the same name from Trapani. Further life dates are not known. He was probably first a student of Vito Carrera , then he was in Pietro Novelli's workshop in Palermo .

His panel paintings show a clear reference to the art of Caravaggio , who was in Palermo in 1609. Carrera was a very busy painter who left a wealth of pictures, especially in western Sicily. He died very old in Trapani.
