Andrea D. Bührmann

Andrea D. Bührmann (born October 27, 1961 in Düsseldorf ) is a German sociologist and professor at the Georg-August University of Göttingen .

Live and act

After studying sociology, philosophy and political science, which she completed in 1988 with an MA in sociology, Andrea Dorothea Bührmann received her doctorate in 1995 from the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . She completed further training to become a personnel officer and was a research assistant at the Chair of General Sociology at the University of Paderborn . There Bührmann coordinated the DFG project: "The Crisis of Modernity". In 2004, after receiving a DFG grant, he completed his habilitation in general sociology. Since then, Bührmann has held various visiting and substitute professorships in Dortmund, Salzburg, Munich and Vienna. In 2009 she became an adjunct professor at the University of Münster . She has been teaching at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen since 2011 .

In 2011 Andrea Dorothea Bührmann was offered a W-2 professorship at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. In 2012 she was offered a W-3 professorship at the University of Konstanz.

In 2013 Bührmann founded the Institute for Diversity Research and has headed it since then. In the summer semester of 2014, she was a Research Fellow at the University of California / Berkeley ; In the 2015 summer semester, she was appointed to a visiting professorship at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt .

Between 2013 and 2015 she was Dean of Research at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Göttingen. Andrea Dorothea Bührmann has been Vice President at the University of Göttingen since 2015. She is responsible for the departments of study and teaching as well as equality and diversity. In 2017 she was re-elected for a second term. A year later she was appointed to the permanent commission for studies and teaching at the state university conference. Since then, she has also been a member of the founding committee of the HRK network of vice-presidents, co- and vice-rectors for teaching and studying.

In recent years, Bührmann has researched social transformation processes in work and its organizational structures. On the basis of her work on gender theory, she conceived the practice-theoretical research program of reflective diversity research. The sociological dispositive research that she helped to develop functions as a methodological reference point.

Bührmann leads several research, evaluation and transfer projects on the topic of diversity and is the spokesperson for the joint project "Diversity Turn in Land Use Science". At the same time, she is a member of various scientific (specialist) advisory boards, works as a reviewer for various scientific journals as well as national and international organizations and, as an expert in diversity research and management, advises various ministries at state and federal level.

In 2016 Bührmann founded the “Journal for Diversity Research and Management” together with others. Since then she has also been one of the editors.

In 2018, Bührmann received an invitation as a visiting professor at the German Institute for Japanese Studies (DIJ) of the Max Weber Foundation - German Humanities Institutes Abroad (DGIA), Tokyo / Japan.
