Andrea Falconieri

Andrea Falconieri (partly also Andrea Falconiero ; * around 1585 probably in Naples ; † July 29, 1656 probably in Naples) was an Italian lute player , singer and composer.

Life

Andrea Falconieri called himself Napolitano on the title pages of his works . In his youth he was trained at the court of the Duke of Parma. He then worked at various Italian aristocratic courts, in Rome , Modena and Parma . Between 1621 and 1628 he toured Spain and France. From 1639 he was theorbo-player of the Real Capella di Palazzo in Naples, which was under the direction of Giovanni Maria Trabaci . After his death, Falconieri was appointed Kapellmeister on January 15, 1648. He died during a plague epidemic in 1656.

His work consists of motets , madrigals , villanelles with guitars - tablature and instrumental works.

  • 1616 "Libro primo di vilanelle a 1, 2, 3 voci", the Cardinal Carlo di Ferdinando de 'Medici dedicated
  • 1650 “Primo libro di canzone, symphony, fantasy, capricci, brandi, correnti, gagliarde, alemane, volte per violini, viole overo altro strumento á uno, due, et tré con il basso continuo”, Juan José de Austria , illegitimate son of Dedicated to the Spanish King Philip IV . In this work he combines the Italian and Spanish styles of early baroque dance music.
