Andrea Fraunschiel

Andrea Fraunschiel (born May 8, 1955 in Eisenstadt ; † August 4, 2019 there ) was an Austrian adult educator and politician ( ÖVP ). Fraunschiel was a member of the Federal Council , a member of the Burgenland state parliament and from January 2007 to November 2011 mayor of the state capital Eisenstadt.

education and profession

Andrea Fraunschiel attended elementary school from 1961 to 1965 and then to a modern grammar school, which she graduated with the Matura in 1973 . She then studied English and history at the University of Vienna until 1978 . Professionally she was active in adult education and from 1981 trainer in the areas of English, superlearning and communication techniques. In addition, Fraunschiel was a course leader at WIFI Burgenland.

politics

Fraunschiel was a member of the Eisenstadt municipal council from 1992 . From 1999 to 2002 she was city councilor in Eisenstadt, and from 2002 deputy mayor. After mayor Peter Nemeth left office at the end of 2006 for private reasons, Fraunschiel was elected mayor of Eisenstadt on January 24, 2007 by the local council. In the direct mayoral election in 2007, it prevailed against its competitors with 59 percent of the votes, but the ÖVP lost two seats in the municipal council election. On November 15, 2011 Fraunschiel resigned as mayor and Thomas Steiner succeeded her.

In addition to her local political activities, Fraunschiel was also involved with the ÖVP women , where she was elected deputy district manager for the Eisenstadt district in 1993 and deputy regional manager and in 2011 as regional manager of the ÖVP women in Burgenland. In 1991 she became city director of the Austrian women's movement in Eisenstadt.

Frauenschiel was also a member of the Austrian Federal Council from May 27, 2004 to October 24, 2005 and subsequently a member of the Burgenland Landtag until January 31, 2007.

Private

Andrea Fraunschiel was married and had one son.
