Andrea Schenker-Wicki

Andrea Schenker-Wicki (born November 2, 1959 in Zurich ) is a Swiss economist . She has been Rector of the University of Basel since August 2015 .

Life

Andrea Schenker-Wicki studied food science at the ETH Zurich and economics at the University of Zurich . In 1990 she received her PhD in Operations Research and Computer Science from the University of Friborg (Switzerland). In 1996 she completed her habilitation at the University of St. Gallen with a study on the evaluation of university performance.

From 1990 to 1997 Schenker-Wicki worked as a research assistant and from 1993 as an information officer at the National Alarm Center in Zurich. She then headed the University System section in the Federal Office for Education and Science (today: State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation ) for four years .

From 2001 to 2015 she was a full professor of business administration at the University of Zurich and director of the Executive MBA and the CAS program “Fundamentals of Corporate Management”. In 2012, she was also elected Vice-Rector for Law and Economics at the University of Zurich and held this position until 2014.

She has been Rector of the University of Basel since August 2015. This makes her the first female rector in the history of the university.

Awards and memberships

Andrea Schenker-Wicki is a member of the University Council of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZFH). In addition, she was a member of the Accreditation Council of the Foundation for the Accreditation of Study Programs in Germany (2009–2012) and the Austrian Science Council (2010–2016) Universities and was a member of the Swiss Science and Innovation Council from 2012 to 2015 . In 2013, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna awarded her an honorary doctorate. Schenker-Wicki has been an honorary member of AV Filetia Turicensis, an all- women association in the Swiss Student Union at the University of Zurich, since 2015 .
