Andrea Star Reese (born March 14, 1952 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , USA) is an American photographer and video artist. She lives in New York City .

Andrea Star Reese first established herself as a video artist and worked mainly in the field of dance and theater. Her recordings of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 met with great demand from the media, so that she turned to documentary work with the camera more often. In 2003 she worked for a long time in Indonesia, where she switched from video to photography. In 2007 she returned to New York to study at the International Center of Photography . In the same year, she began working on her project "The Urban Cave", which documents the lives of homeless women and men in makeshift shelters in and around New York City, despite attempts by the city council to prevent these makeshift camps. “The Urban Cave” documents the resilience of people “on the other side” of society. The focus is more on individuals and the range of their lives than on the respective deprivations.

Some of her pictures were selected for the traveling exhibition reGeneration2 - Tomorrow's Photographers Today , which premiered in 2010 at the Musée de l'Elysée in Lausanne.

The French organizations Photographie.com and 24h.com commissioned Andrea Star Reese to document the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City.

The pictures of Andrea Star Reese were u. a. exhibited at the International Center of Photography in New York, at the Pingyao International Photography Festival in China or at the Visa pour l'Image Festival in Perpignan .
