Giorgi Gamqrelidse ( Georgian გიორგი გამყრელიძე ; born February 4, 1986 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian basketball player . The Georgian national team won by one season in the Furstenfeld Panthers in the " Austrian Basketball Bundesliga " from 2007 to 2009 in his home country three times the championship with the basketball club from Rustavi and was voted player of the past season of 2009. He then moved to the German basketball league for the promoted Mitteldeutscher BC , with whom he managed to stay in the league. In the following BBL season 2010/11 he played for the league competitor 46ers from Gießen , in which the founding member of the BBL was also able to achieve relegation.
Gamqrelidse reached with the national team of his country the qualification for the finals of the EM 2011 in Lithuania , where in the preliminary round succeeded by two victories over Belgium and Ukraine the advancement into the intermediate round of the top twelve European national teams. Then he returned to the new league Olimpi in his homeland, with whom he won the Georgian runner-up. He then signed a contract for the 2012/13 season with Trefl from Sopot in the Polish PLK . However, this contract was canceled again, for which visa difficulties were cited, so that Gamqrelidse will play for the reigning Georgian champions and EuroChallenge participant BK Armia from Tbilisi in the 2012/13 season .
