Andrea di Bonaiuto , Andrea Bonaiuti or Andrea da Firenze (* 14th century in Florence , † 1379 in Florence) was a Florentine painter.

Life

Andrea de Bonaiuto is proven in 1346 as a member of the Florentine Guild of Doctors and Pharmacists, to which the painters belonged. In 1355 he went to Pisa , where he worked for around 10 years. After his return to Florence he was commissioned by Buonamico Guidalotti, a wealthy Florentine citizen and patron, to paint the chapter house of the Dominican monastery of Santa Maria Novella . The conception of the cycle of images, which honors Thomas Aquinas , allegorically depicts the Christian faith and in which the theology of the Dominicans is reflected, probably comes from the Dominican Jacopo Passavanti , who lived in the convent of Santa Maria Novella.

From 1365 to 1367 Bonaiuto was involved in the planning for the Florentine Cathedral. After a short stay in Orvieto , he returned to Florence in 1375, where he painted a panel of St. Luke painted for the Santa Maria Nuova Monastery. In 1377 he was commissioned to paint an altarpiece in Pisa and a fresco for Camposanto , which is no longer preserved.
