Andreas Čap (born May 23, 1965 in Vienna ) is an Austrian mathematician and university professor at the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna .

After studying mathematics at the University of Vienna, he did his doctorate in 1991 under Peter Michor at the University of Vienna on the subject of homotopy theory for smooth spaces and K-theory for suitable algebras . In 1997 he completed his habilitation on the topic of Invariant operators on manifolds with almost hermitian symmetric structures . In 2011 he was appointed university professor. He is on the board of the Erwin Schrödinger Institute for Mathematical Physics .

In 2001 he received the Austrian Mathematical Society's sponsorship award .

Among other things, he deals with differential geometry and Lie groups . He is considered to be the co-founder of parabolic geometry.
