Andreas Dahlweiner (incorrectly also Andreas Sahlweiner , Andreas Dahlwein ; born September 10, 1734 in Weißenhorn , † 1758 or 1759 in Augsburg ) was a German painter . He mainly worked in the sphere of influence of the Münsterschwarzach Abbey .

Life

Andreas Dahlweiner was born on September 10, 1734 in Weißenhorn, which at that time was an Austrian provincial town. His father Joseph Dahlweiner came from Jestetten in Baden , he had married his mother Ursula Wilhelm in 1733. Andreas was the couple's first child and the future pastor of Illerberg , Andreas Molitor, was found to be their godparent . Dahlweiner's birthplace was probably at Ulmerstrasse 6 in the Weißenhorn suburb.

In 1737 the family moved to today's Günzburger Straße 22. The house belonged to the artist family Kuen , through whom Dahlweiner came into contact with painting at an early age. Perhaps the young Andreas also received his first painting lessons from Johann Jakob Kuen. In Weißenhorn, Dahlweiner also made contacts with the Wörsing family of painters (also Wirsing, Wersing). He moved to the imperial city of Augsburg at an early age to continue studying here.

Before joining the Augsburg painters' guild, Dahlweiner stated that he had studied for two years with the painter Jörg Baur before he was trained by Johann Wolfgang Baumgartner for a year . Johann Esaias Nilson was probably also involved in the training of young Andreas . As early as 1755 Dahlweiner accepted the first orders for the Benedictine monastery Münsterschwarzach in the Franconian bishopric of Würzburg and his abbot Christophorus Balbus . Here he especially created the paintings in the Nordheimer Zehnthof of the abbey.

Dahlweiner may have been on a study trip to Franconia. At this time the abbot was looking for an artist who could work in the style of the painter Johann Evangelist Holzer for the baroque monastery church . Andreas Dahlweiner was recommended by the Augsburg painter Johann Georg Bergmüller and created a copy of Holzer's “operae” (Latin works), the frescoes of the Münsterschwarzach monastery church, as proof of his ability.

On December 11, 1756, the Augsburg painters' guild awarded Dahlweiner the title of master. Dahlweiner then married Maria Catharina Moschseck from Deissendorf in the bishopric of Salzburg on January 22nd, 1757 . A short time later, on March 5, 1757, he applied for the citizenship of Augsburg. Dahlweiner soon worked for the Augustinian Canons of St. Zeno in Reichenhall. However, he died between March 28, 1758 and October 14, 1759 in Augsburg. Therefore, only a few works by the artist have survived.
