Zehnthof in Nordheim

The Zehnthofkapelle is a protected architectural monument in Nordheim am Main , the capital of the municipality of the same name in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen . The chapel , redesigned in baroque style in 1755 and now profaned, is located in the three-wing complex of the Zehnthof on the upper floor of the younger south wing built in 1688.

description

The chapel was built in its present form in 1755 under Christoph Balbus , the abbot of the Münsterschwarzach monastery . He commissioned the plasterer Johann Michael II. Feichtmayr from Wessobrunn with the design. Andreas Dahlweiner (also erroneously: Sahlweiner) from Weißenhorn created the frescoes . The main painting is dedicated to the Trinity , the four seasons are the theme in the vaulted vaults .

In 1804, because of the conversion to residential purposes, an intermediate ceiling was put in so that the ceiling paintings were covered. It was removed again in 1993. During the restoration from 2007, the frescoes were restored and the chapel room was thoroughly repaired by the architect Mathias Wieser. In 2008, the renovation was awarded the Lower Franconian government award. The room is used for events by the winegrowers' cooperative DIVINO, owner of the Zehnthof, and is also accessible during guided tours.

meaning

After the loss of the baroque monastery church of Münsterschwarzach , which is very important in terms of art history , the chapel is, in the words of chief curator Martin Brandl, “the only sacred space” that bears testimony to the art of this monastery, a kind of art and theology-historical “offshoot” of the monastery church.
