Andreas "Res" Erhardt (* 1951 ) is a Swiss ecologist and emeritus professors at the University of Basel and politician ( Social Democratic Party of Switzerland ).

Life

Erhardt studied zoology at the University of Basel and completed his diploma with a thesis on the biology of squid . In 1981 he submitted his dissertation in botany at the University of Basel on the effects of changes in use on plant and butterfly communities in the Tavetsch . After research stays in Basel and at the University of California, Berkeley in the USA, he completed his habilitation at the University of Basel in 1991. From 1995 Erhardt worked as a cantonal school teacher at the Bäumlihof grammar school in Basel, in addition to his research activities and his teaching position at the University of Basel .

Erhardt has been retired since 2016.

research

Erhardt's main research areas are:

  • Interactions between butterflies and plants
  • Pollination and reproductive biology of native carnation species
  • Habitat changes: a threat to biodiversity

Erhardt is chairman of the working group for the protection of day moths in Baselland and a member of the genetic research forum SCNAT.

politics

Andreas Erhardt was politically active for eleven years as an SP representative in the residents' council of his former municipality of Binningen . Then he was a member of the municipal commission in Bottmingen .

Andreas Erhardt is committed to environmental protection and biodiversity and against global warming . True to the motto 'think globally - act locally', he is of the opinion that environmental policy thinking and action must also be promoted at the local level. In addition, the commitment to socially weak and disadvantaged groups is important to him.

Andreas Erhardt is a member of several environmental associations ( Pro Natura , WWF , Tierschutz and Greenpeace ). He is also involved in professional associations.

Private

In his spare time, the jazz lover Erhardt is active as a tenor saxophonist .
