Bottmingen ( Basel German : Bottmige ) is a municipality in the Arlesheim district in the canton of Basel-Landschaft in Switzerland .
The municipality is generally counted among the wealthier suburbs of Basel, and is the financially strongest municipality in the canton of Basel-Landschaft in terms of tax revenue.
geography
Bottmingen lies in the Leimental , also called Birsigtal because of the Birsig flowing through the valley , at the foot of the Bruderholz at 295 m above sea level. M. Its neighboring communities are Reinach , Oberwil , Binningen and the city of Basel . The area of the municipality is 299 hectares, of which 52% is settlement area, 28% is agricultural area, 19% is forest and 1% is unproductive area.
history
Bottmingen was first mentioned in a document in 1246 as Bothmingen .
Bottmingen and Binningen have belonged to the Bishop of Basel since the 11th century. In 1534 the village was pledged to the city of Basel and in 1585 Basel acquired Bottmingen in its entirety.
Bottmingen and Binningen separated their pastures and property as early as the 18th century. In 1756 Bottmingen got its own school. But it was not until 1837, shortly after the transfer to the newly formed canton of Basel-Landschaft, that Bottmingen and Binningen separated and formed politically independent communities.
coat of arms
The Bottming coat of arms has existed since 1943. Two crossed silver figures on a red background, the meaning of which cannot be determined with certainty. It is the seal of the Basel noble family Schilling, the second owners of the Bottmingen Castle.

27% of the population are Roman Catholic and 36% are Reformed . The proportion of foreigners (residents without citizenship ) is 19.3%.

Attractions
- Weiherschloss Bottmingen , which was mentioned for the first time in 1363. It has been a restaurant since 1957 and belongs to the canton of Basel-Landschaft.
