Andreas Gadient

Andreas Gadient (born September 6, 1892 in Trimmis , † December 27, 1976 in Chur ) was a Swiss politician ( Democratic Party of Graubünden ).

Andreas Gadient was one of the founders of the Democratic Party in the canton of Graubünden in 1919 and played a major role in its rise in the interwar years. From 1925 to 1959 he was a member of the National Council. At the same time he was a member of the Grand Council from 1927 to 1939 and from 1951 to 1957, and from 1939 to 1947 a member of the government and head of the finance and military department. His political priorities were the concerns of small and mountain farmers as well as social and educational policy. Gadient got involved in the promotion of industry in order to avoid a one-sided focus of the canton on tourism.

Andreas Gadient had a doctorate (Dr. phil.) And a higher teaching degree . From 1917 to 1921 he worked in Chur as a secondary and commercial school teacher, in 1921 he settled in Klosters-Serneus and worked there as a farmer and until 1931 as a secondary teacher. From 1941 to 1976 he was a member of the board of directors of Ems-Werke .

Andreas Gadient was the father of the politician Ulrich Gadient (1931–2016, also the Democratic Party of Graubünden and from 1971 SVP ) and grandfather of the politician Brigitta Gadient (* 1960, SVP / BDP).
