Luigi Bruins (born March 9, 1987 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch football player . The midfielder is under contract with Excelsior Rotterdam . He is of Italian descent and has Dutch citizenship as well.

Career

Bruins comes from the youth department of Excelsior Rotterdam . In 2004/05 he joined the club's professional squad. This season he made his debut for the then second division club . However, there was no further use. It was not until the following year that he asserted himself as a regular and scored four goals in 35 games. At the end of the season, the team rose to the Eredivisie . Despite another good season personally, the immediate relegation took place bottom of the table. Then Bruins decided to change. Both the big Dutch clubs like Ajax Amsterdam , AZ Alkmaar , Feyenoord Rotterdam and PSV Eindhoven , as well as foreign teams like Tottenham Hotspur vied for the services of the young star at the time. Ultimately, Bruins decided to move to Feyenoord only within the city. On July 17, 2007 he made his competitive debut for the red and whites . In the same game, he scored his first goal for his new employer. At the end of the season, they qualified directly for the UEFA Cup .

The team was more successful in the cup than in the league. Feyenoord made it to the finals for the KNVB Cup , where they beat Roda JC Kerkrade 2-0 . After a sporting decline for the traditional Rotterdam club, he turned down the contract extension offered by Leo Beenhakker and moved to Austria for FC Red Bull Salzburg in October 2011 . In Salzburg, however, he only came across a total of three missions over the entire autumn season and did not know how to convince. In mid-December, both parties agreed to terminate the contract. In March 2012 Bruins returned to the Eredivisie and moved to Excelsior Rotterdam . The club finished last and was relegated. The midfielder came on nine missions and was able to contribute two goals, his expired contract was not extended. After half a year without a club, he was signed by the French first division club OGC Nice in January 2013 . During the summer break of 2014, he moved to Excelsior Rotterdam.

National team

In 2007 he appointed Foppe de Haan to the U-21 squad of the Netherlands for the U-21 European Championship in the Netherlands. The team advanced to the final and was able to defeat the Serbian selection 4-1. Bruins came on as a substitute in the second half and scored the goal for the final score. This was also his only appearance during the whole EM.
