Career

society

Stevens began his career in the youth of the Hoorner amateur club Always Forward - as did his father John, who guarded the goal for DS '79 and AZ '67 in the Eredivisie . In his early years, however, Sonny Stevens still played as a center forward . Only towards the end of the F-youth he switched to the goal, which he defended from the D-youth at FC Volendam . Despite suffering from Pfeiffer glandular fever , he prevailed in all youth classes and made his debut in the Eerste Divisie in the 2010/11 season . In the following season he was allowed to replace number one, Robbin Ruiter , ten times . In the 2012/13 season he became the goalkeeper of the second division; the Volendamers reached the relegation playoffs , in which they won three games with Stevens, but had to bow to the promoted Go Ahead Eagles .

For the 2013/14 season, honorary division FC Twente signed the 21-year-old, who was to become Enscheder's second goalkeeper behind Nikolaj Michajlow . Still in the pre-season, however, Stevens suffered a shoulder injury that would put him out of action for several weeks. Since Michailow was toying with a club change, Twente extended the contract of Nick Marsman, who had previously been loaned to the Go Ahead Eagles .

In addition to his football training, Stevens is studying at Johan Cruyff College .

National team

Stevens played in the Dutch U-20 team.
