Andreas Prothmann

Andreas Prothmann (born April 12, 1960 in Berlin ) is a German diplomat . He has been ambassador to Tajikistan since November 2019 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Andreas Prothmann studied law in Passau , Geneva and Singapore from 1978 . After completing his studies, he received his doctorate in Passau in 1988 with a thesis on production quotas for steel in accordance with Article 58 of the ECSC Treaty in the case law of the ECJ .

Prothmann is married and has 4 children.

career

In 1988 Prothmann joined the Foreign Service and after completing his preparatory service for the higher foreign service, initially worked in the legal department of the Foreign Office . After a position in the Political Department at the Moscow Embassy from 1991 to 1994, he was Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General in Seattle from 1994 to 1996 . From 1996 to 1999 he worked in the Department of Culture and Communication in the Foreign Office, then from 1999 to 2003 he was Deputy Head of the Embassy in Tashkent ( Uzbekistan ), from 2003 to 2006 Deputy Head of the Human Resources Department in the Foreign Office and from 2006 to 2009 at the Washington Embassy in the Political Department.

After a further period in the Foreign Office, as Head of Export Control and Non-Proliferation, he was transferred to the London Embassy in 2013 as envoy for economics . In 2016 he took part in the OSCE Economic Conference in Berlin as the German representative and was then special representative for Ukraine in the Foreign Office from 2016 to 2019 .

Prothmann has been ambassador to Dushanbe , Tajikistan, since November 2019 .
