Andreas Rickenbacher (born February 6, 1968 in Biel / Bienne , canton of Bern ) was a member of the government of the canton of Bern and head of the Department of Economics (VOL) between 2006 and 2016 . Today he is an entrepreneur and an independent board member.

Study and job

Andreas Rickenbacher attended primary school in Jens and Nidau and graduated from the German high school in Biel with the Matura . He then completed his basic studies in economics at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and then concentrated on business administration (corporate management, marketing) and political science at the University of Bern . He graduated from the University of Bern in 1996 (lic.rer.pol.). During his studies he worked from 1992 to 1996 as an assistant to Claude Longchamp at the GfS Research Institute in Bern . After graduating, he became a project manager and management assistant at the same institute in 1996. His tasks consisted of leading his own research projects in the field of social, political and marketing research.

From 1998 to 2004 he worked in the field of management consulting, where he built up and managed his own mandates. In 2004 he founded his own company, rickenbacher projekte gmbh , which led projects in the fields of marketing, communication and management. After his election to the government council, he sold all of his shares in this company.

On April 9, 2006, Andreas Rickenbacher was elected to the government council of the canton of Bern. Between June 2006 and June 2016 he was the first social democrat in the canton's history to head the economics department. On March 28, 2010 and March 30, 2014, Andreas Rickenbacher was re-elected as government councilor for four additional years.

In August 2015, Andreas Rickenbacher announced his resignation on June 30, 2016 after more than 20 years in politics, including 10 years in government. Today he is the owner of Andreas Rickenbacher Management AG. He works as an independent board member of companies that are at the interface between private and public sectors, leads strategic consulting projects and supports start-up companies.

Political career

Andreas Rickenbacher began his political career in 1993 as a board member and vice-president of the SP-Amtsverband Nidau ​​(until 2003) and in 1994 with his election to the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern. In the same year he also became a member of the Finance Committee of the Grand Council (until 2000). In 1995 Rickenbacher became Vice President of the SP parliamentary group in the Grand Council, and in 2000 he became its President. In 2004/05 he was a member of the PUK BLVK .

On April 9, 2006, Andreas Rickenbacher was elected to the Bern government council and thus to the executive branch . With the economics directorate, he took over the “cross-sectional directorate” of the canton. Between January 2014 and June 2016, Andreas Rickenbacher chairs the Conference of Economics Directors of Switzerland (VDK), since 2015 he has been Vice-President of the Swiss Innovation Park Foundation (SIP) and between 2015 and 2019 Chairman of the Board of Directors of BE! Tourism AG.

Between 2006 and 2016, the canton was ruled by a red-green majority.
