Andreas Schröder (church musician)

Andreas Schröder (born June 9, 1939 in Leipzig ) is a German church musician .

Life

Andreas Schröder grew up in Dresden and was a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor . He originally wanted to study architecture, but was not allowed to do so in the former GDR. He left his homeland and studied music in Freiburg im Breisgau .

Andreas Schröder converted to the Catholic faith and was cantor of St. Stephan (Karlsruhe) from 1965 until his retirement . From 1979 he also taught as a professor at the Karlsruhe University of Music . Most recently he was church music director until he retired in 2005. His successor is Patrick Fritz-Benzing .
