Andreas Tyrock

Andreas Tyrock (born July 24, 1963 in Northeim ) is a German journalist and has been editor-in-chief of the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ) in Essen since July 1, 2014 .

education

In 1983 Tyrock graduated from high school Corvinianum in Northeim. He then spent two years with the German Armed Forces and was released as a lieutenant in the reserve . In the summer of 1985 he began his journalistic work at the Hessische / Niedersächsische Allgemeine (HNA) in Northeim.

In the fall of 1985, Tyrock began studying social sciences at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . Further journalistic activities followed in the autumn of 1989 in the form of press and public relations work at the Swiss National Association for Sport in Bern and at Kieler Nachrichten in the Schleswig-Holstein / Hamburg regional department. In the spring of 1991, Tyrock completed his studies with a degree in social economics.

In the summer of 1991, Tyrock began a traineeship at the Braunschweiger Zeitung and became an editor there in the autumn of 1992. Between 1993 and 1997 he worked as a lecturer at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. There he worked as a seminar leader, gave lectures on the subject of "Theory and Practice of Journalism" and was editor-in-chief of the Göttingen university sports magazine Seitenwechsel .

From 1996 to 1997 he was head of the press and public relations department of the Braunschweig district government and press spokesman for the district president. In 2001 he was appointed head of the Politics department at the Braunschweiger Zeitung and was part of the editor-in-chief from 2005.

On April 1, 2008, Tyrock moved to the General-Anzeiger in Bonn , where he replaced Joachim Westhoff as editor-in-chief. Under Tyrock, the General-Anzeiger brought out the investigative series "The Millions Trap" on the fraudulent machinations around the planned World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB), which was followed by investigations by the judiciary. As a result, there were also legal disputes between the General-Anzeiger and the city of Bonn, as well as its Lord Mayor Jürgen Nimptsch .

The General-Anzeiger was awarded the Guardian Prize of the German daily press in 2010 and the German Local Journalist Prize in 2011 . “The Generalanzeiger makes families, their everyday problems and challenges, their wishes, dreams and ideas the guideline for editorial work,” stated the jury.

On July 1, 2014, Tyrock moved to Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung , where he has been editor-in-chief ever since. There he is the successor of Ulrich Reitz .

Tyrock has been married since 1991 and has two sons.
