Andreas Wittmann

Andreas Wittmann (born May 5, 1961 in Munich ) is a German oboist .

After studying with Heinz Brune in Regensburg , Manfred Clement and Hansjörg Schellenberger , his first engagement led him to the Berliner Philharmoniker , of which he has been a member since 1986. As principal oboist he has appeared in the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival and with the Berliner Philharmoniker under the direction of Daniel Barenboim , James Levine , Riccardo Muti , Mariss Jansons , Bernard Haitink , Claudio Abbado and Simon Rattle .

He is a soloist, chamber musician and teacher. In 1988 he and four of his colleagues founded the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet , with which he recorded numerous compact discs for the Swedish label BIS. Since 1995 he has been a lecturer at the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic . From 2000 to 2005 and from 2008 to 2012 he was elected director of the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Andreas Wittmann's brother is the actor and speaker Thomas Wittmann .
