The Protestant St. Andrew's Church is located in the Schildgen district of Bergisch Gladbach . The community has been called the Evangelical Church Community of Altenberg / Schildgen since 1994 . The church was built according to plans by the Bremen architect Bert Gielen. The inauguration took place on November 19, 1967.

Building description

inner space

The church interior is east-facing , the altar area raised by a few steps. The rows of banks are divided into two asymmetrical blocks divided by an aisle. The choir wall is clad with natural stone. The lighting of the altar is also made to the side thanks to a shift in the wall.

Furnishing

Baptismal font

The Munich sculptor Marie Luise Wilckens (1908–2001) designed the altar , altar candlesticks and altar cross , as well as the baptismal font . The altar is made of Anröchter dolomite . Its design is intended to remind of its function as a communion table and, through its block shape, to indicate the symbol as a sacrificial stone .

Church window

The window designed by the Cologne artist Ernst Thomas Reimbold was executed in the glass painting Oidtmann . The church, originally made of red brick , was later whitewashed after the stone bloomed. Therefore the colors of the windows are kept very light. Its nine fields show seven scenes from the life of the apostle Andrew .

Social facilities

In the summer of 1994, the three-group integrative day care center “Schneckenhaus” was opened. In August 2006, the open all-day primary school (OGS) "Villa Concordia" started operations. The Protestant parish Altenberg / Schildgen is responsible for this extra-curricular offer.

Ecumenism

With the Catholic sister congregation Herz-Jesu , the Andreas congregation works together in the spirit of ecumenism in areas of congregational life: worship and prayer , educational work , child and youth work , public relations work , diakonia and Caritas .
