Andrei Iwanowitsch Golowin ( Russian Андрей Иванович Головин ; born August 11, 1950 in Moscow ) is a Russian composer .

Life

Golovin studied composition with Yevgeny Golubew at the Moscow Conservatory until 1976 . Until 1979 he stayed with Golubew at the Conservatory as part of an apprenticeship. However, as early as 1975 he had begun teaching himself. He initially taught at the Gnessin Music School, and from 1989 at the Gnessin Institute . He has been a lecturer there since 1997. Pyotr Klimov is one of his students . Golowin also performs as a pianist and conductor of his own works. His opera "First Love" was awarded the Moscow Prize in 1998, and he was honored with another prize for his film music for "About Love".

style

After a few first works, some of which reveal Lutosławski's influence , Golowin soon found his own idiom. This ties in closely with the tradition of Russian music since the 19th century. A rather dark, elegiac attitude is characteristic. Golowin's music is very expressive and close to romanticism . The melodic component plays an important role. The composer often uses small motivic fragments which he develops into large complexes. It is precisely in this context that the influence of Boris Tchaikovsky , a composer highly valued by Golovin, can be demonstrated. Golowin's palette of timbres sometimes includes impressionistic effects. His music has a clear tonal foundation.
