Andrej Osterman (born October 4, 1960 ) is a Slovenian major general and was Commander of the Slovenian Armed Forces from 2014 to 2018 .

Life

Andrej Osterman was born in 1960 in Kranj (German Krainburg ) in the Krain region. After his military service from 1979 to 1981, he studied law at the University of Ljubljana .

Military career

Andrej Osterman had already trained as a reserve officer during his military service and joined the armed forces of his home country as a career officer as part of the separation of Slovenia from Yugoslavia . In the next few years he worked there in the field of training and was promoted to major in 1993.

This was followed by various training and further education, various uses in the troops and tasks at NATO as well as several promotions and awards. On October 13, 2014, Osterman succeeded Dobran Božič as military commander of the Slovenian Armed Forces. A good month later, he was promoted to major general on November 23rd. In 2018 he was replaced by Alan Geder as military commander of the Slovenian Armed Forces.

Private

The general is married and has two children. In addition to his mother tongue, he also speaks English.
