Alan Geder

Alan Geder (born August 21, 1958 ) is a Slovenian major general . From February to November 2018 he was the commander of the Slovenian Armed Forces .

Life

Alan Geder was born in 1958 in Lendava (German: Unterlimbach ), the easternmost municipality in Slovenia, in the Prekmurje region.

Military career

Alan Geder had already joined the Slovenian Defense Forces in 1988, from which the country's national armed forces emerged as part of the breakaway from Yugoslavia . In 1991 he took an active part in the 10-day war and was involved in combat operations in the northeast of the country. In order to qualify for higher management positions, he attended the United States Army War College from 2004 to 2005 .

In May 2010, Geder was promoted to major general and in the same year took over the post of deputy commander of the Slovenian army. From 2011 to 2015 he was the representative of the armed forces of his home country to NATO and the EU in Brussels. He then returned to Slovenia and resumed the duties of deputy commander. In February 2018, he replaced Andrej Osterman as military commander in chief of the armed forces, and in November of the same year he was succeeded by Alenka Ermenc .

Private

The general lives in Radenci with his family . Before starting his military career, he studied at the Faculty of Sports in Ljubljana from 1980 to 1984 .
