Alenka Ermenc (born September 5, 1963 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian major general . Since November 2018 she has been the military commander of the Slovenian armed forces .

Life

Ermenc graduated from the University of Ljubljana , where she obtained a bachelor's degree in political science . A postgraduate course led in 2008 and 2009, according to London at the Royal College of Defense Studies and at the King's College , which they on the latter with a Master graduated in International Studies.

Military career

In 1991 she joined the armed forces of her home country. The Slovenian War of Independence was one of their first missions that same year . At times she was assigned to the multinational Kosovo troops , where she held both managerial and advisory functions. From the beginning of 2018, she was deputy commander in chief of the troops in her home country. After she was promoted to major general on November 16, 2018, she took over the leadership of the Slovenian military on 28th of the same month from Alan Geder as chief of the general staff. After a test over the course of the year showed that the preparedness of the Slovenian troops was inadequate, President Borut Pahor hopes that this exchange will improve the situation soon. She is the first woman in this position.
