Andrew is the name of a subway station owned by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) in the Boston borough of South Boston in the state of Massachusetts in the United States . It provides access to the line Red Line .
history
Andrew Station opened on June 29, 1918 as the last station at the south end of the Cambridge-Dorchester Tunnel . It was the terminus of the Red Line until the Columbia , Savin Hill and Fields Corner stations opened in 1927 . From 1990 to 1993 it was completely renovated.

building
The underground station is located in the eponymous Andrew Square at the intersection of Dorchester Avenue and Southampton Street . It is completely barrier-free .
Inside the building is the artwork "Andrew Square Time Capsule" by Ross Miller as art in public space . It consists of a table, four chairs and 14 boxes made of stainless steel and was hung over the rails. The boxes contain items that were collected from passengers during renovations in the 1990s. They are scheduled to reopen in 2068 - 75 years after they were installed. Also worth seeing is the fully restored ticket booth belonging to the same art project, which was placed on the crossing to change the direction of travel.

There are connections to seven MBTA bus routes at the station. Carson Beach , the University of Massachusetts Boston , the Boston Medical Center and the Boston Harbor Walk are in the immediate vicinity .
