College Basketball Invitational
The College Basketball Invitational (CBI) is a swept annual invitational tournament in basketball in the area of the National Collegiate Athletic Association organized (NCAA) college sports in the United States . It first took place in 2008 and is organized by Princeton, New Jersey- based sports marketing company The Gazelle Group .
16 teams take part in the CBI, which is held in the postseason in March and April, who are selected and invited based on their performance in the regular season. The teams are determined after the participants in the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship tournament and the National Invitation Tournament , which has also been organized by the NCAA since 2005 , have been announced, both of which are considered to be more prestigious due to their decades of tradition.
The CBI takes place in the knockout system , in which the teams involved each play one game in the eighth, quarter and semi-finals. The final will be held in best-of-three mode as a Championship Series , which will be won by the team that wins two games first. The venues of the participating teams are the venue for all games.
