Andrew Baird (born June 11, 1866 in Irvine , † 1916 ) was a Scottish football goalkeeper and golfer .

Career

Andrew Baird was born in Irvine in southwest North Ayrshire , about ten kilometers west of Kilmarnock , in 1866 . In his youth and beyond, the goalkeeper played for a local team in Irvine. In 1890 he joined Queen's Park FC , at that time the record winner in the Scottish Cup with nine successes . He spent the rest of his football career at the Glasgow club .

With the Spiders he reached the final of the cup in 1892 and 1893 . He suffered a 1: 5 defeat against Celtic Glasgow in the first final . A year later, the team retaliated against Celtic with a 2-1 win.

He gave up football for a while to focus on playing golf, but later returned to Queen's Park.

He fell on the side of the Entente against the Central Powers in the First World War in 1916 .

National team

Andrew Baird completed an international match for the Scottish national team in 1892 and 1894 . He made his debut for the selection on March 19, 1892 in a 3-2 away win over Ireland in Belfast during the British Home Championship 1891/92 .

In his second and last game he was against Wales in a 5-2 home win between the posts. This victory helped win the British Home Championship in 1893/94 .
