Andrew Michael Smith

Andrew Michael Smith (born June 3, 1984 in Portsmouth ) is an English badminton player . He was part of the British Olympic team and started in the individual tournament of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing . Smith's highest achieved position in the world rankings is 15th.

Career

Andrew Smith won the New Zealand International in 2004, the Australian Open in 2004 and 2005 and the Vietnam Open in 2006. In 2008 Smith reached the semifinals of the BWF Super Series tournament in Singapore and the quarterfinals of the India Open . In 2012 he won the Slovenia International .

At the Badminton World Cup 2006 Andrew Smith won his first round game against the Spaniard Pablo Abián with 21:15 and 21:13. In the following game he was defeated by the Indonesian Sony Dwi Kuncoro with 19:21 and 13:21. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , Andrew Smith took part in the individual badminton tournament . In the first round he defeated Petr Koukal from the Czech Republic in three sets. In the next round he was eliminated with the same result against Marc Zwiebler .
