Andrew Thomas Gage

Andrew Thomas Gage (born December 14, 1871 in Aberdeen , Scotland, † January 21, 1945 in Strathpepper , Ross , Scotland) was a Scottish botanist and military doctor. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Gage ".

Live and act

Andrew Thomas Gage was born in Aberdeen, the son of Robert Gage. After graduating from the Grammar School in Old Aberdeen, he studied botany and medicine at the University of Aberdeen , where he graduated with a Master of Arts in 1891 , a Bachelor of Science in 1893 and a Bachelor of Medicine in 1896. From 1894 to 1896 he was a field doctor in the military rank of lieutenant (Surg.-Lieut.) With the Indian Medical Service . From 1897 to 1898 he was curator at the Herbarium of the Indian Botanical Gardens in Haora . From 1898 to 1905 he was director of the botanical garden. Between 1917 and 1918 he was responsible for the manufacture of quinine from cinchona bark on behalf of the army in British India .

In 1901 Gage became a Fellow of the Linnean Society . From 1924 to 1929 he was the Society's Librarian and Assistant Secretary.

Andrew Thomas Gage was a passionate plant collector and compiled botanical collections in Malaysia , Burma , Sikkim , Assam and Chittagong for the Botanical Survey of India and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew .
