Andrew M. Yang (born January 13, 1975 in Schenectady , New York ) is an American entrepreneur, philanthropist , author and lawyer who ran for election to the 2020 President of the United States until February 11, 2020. Initially working as a corporate lawyer, Yang worked from 2000 to 2009 in various start-up and early-stage growth companies as a founder and manager. In 2011 he founded Venture for America (VFA), a not-for-profit organization focused on creating jobs in cities recovering from the Great Recession.

Life

Yang grew up in New York State as a child of Taiwanese immigrants. His father worked as a doctor of physics in large companies, his mother as a mathematician and artist. After several years in public schools, he attended Phillips Exeter Academy , a boarding school in New Hampshire , from which he graduated in 1992. He then studied economics at Brown University , where he earned a Bachelor of Arts . After Brown University, Yang attended Columbia Law School , where he received his JD degree. He is the founder of the nonprofit Venture for America , a mentoring program for economically troubled cities in America.

2020 presidential candidacy

Yang entered the area code of the Democratic Party for the presidential nomination in 2020 to.
