Andrij Antonjuk

Andrij Danylowytsch Antonjuk ( Ukrainian Андрі́й Дани́лович Антоню́к ; born October 15, 1943 in Bohopole , Mykolaiv Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ; † April 16, 2013 in Mykolaiv ) was a Ukrainian painter , folk artist and from 1970 a member of the Ukrainian National Union of Artists.

biography

Andrij Antonjuk spent his childhood and youth in Bohopole (today: Pervomajsk ), where he attended the only Ukrainian school in the area. In 1962 Antonjuk graduated from an art school in Odessa . From 1965 to 1971 he worked in Odessa, after 1971 in Mykolaiv . From 1967 to 1985 he took an active part in many exhibitions. In 1970 he became a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine.

Folk art , symbolism and expressionism had a very great influence on Antonjuk's creative work . In his works, folk motifs, artistic interpretation of the past of the Ukrainian nation and its moral aspirations dominate. The artist's expressive originality created a unique artistic layer in the artistic culture of Ukraine. This was the beginning of a special southern direction in Ukrainian art.
